A WICKLOW based member of Gorey Boxing Club is celebrating a recent success to bring an enjoyable sporting year to a close.
Lynsey Doyle (27) from Ballinaclash, Wicklow, who is a member of the Gorey Club and has been boxing for the past three years, now has a national title to her name. She beat Elaine Harrison from Arklow in the 57 kg category, on a score of 26 to 7 in the Intermediate Final in the National Stadium.
She now goes on to the National Seniors' competition in February.
Fellow club member Niall Murray (26) from Gorey, won the Leinster Seniors Competition in the 64 kg category, beating Cian McMahon from Dublin Docklands, in a bout at the Ringside Club in Dublin. He won on a unanimous decision, and now goes on to the National Seniors' in February.
Niall previously won the National Intermediates, and was also in the National Seniors last year, but was beaten in the semi-finals.
The Club celebrated their wins in the Fowler in Gorey last week, and congratulations were sent to both boxers on their achievements. However, the celebrations are now over, and they're back on a full training programme.
The success means the two champions will continue with their training and will be cutting down on the turkey and festive indulgences in the coming week.
