Oscar Traynor hopes kept alive

RUMOURS OF Wicklow's demise have been greatly exaggerated. Contrary to unpopular belief, the Garden County are still clinging on to a potential place in the next round of the Oscar Traynor trophy, thanks in no small part to Jody Merrigan. On Friday evening, Wicklow did battle with the LFL at Shamrock Park and they kept their slim hopes alive thanks to a stunning 6-1 victory.
Jody Merrigan, scorer of a hat-trick in the last county match, whacked four goals past the LFL goalkeeper and that means he has now scored eight goals in three matches in this competition; a feat not to be sniffed at.
The Rathnew men now must collect maximum points in their final group match; an away tie to the Meath League.
That match is scheduled for next Wednesday (December 12) evening. Wicklow must win and hope that other results go in favour of them to advance.
