For most golfers the Captains Prize is the highlight of the year and gives us all an opportunity to honour our Captain and thank him for all the hours he spends tirelessly working for our club. The qualifying round for Brendan Doogue's Captains Prize is on this weekend, Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th September. The format will be 18 holes Singles strokes, play will be from the white markers.

The time sheet is on the club notice board and there will be ½ hourly draws for playing partners. Depending on scoring between 60 and 80 players will qualify to play in the final round the following Saturday. Brendan is a very hard working Captain and ever present at club functions and carries out all his responsibilities with a quiet efficiency.

As far back as 1985 Brendan won Kyran O'Byrne's Captains Prize and followed this by winning his fathers (Martin) prize in 1988. In the late 80's and early 90's Brendan represented the club on many teams, one that comes to mind is the Provincial Towns Cup team that reached the final against Mullingar in 1989. All members wish Brendan the best of luck for this weekend and next!

The golfers who played this weekend enjoyed glorious weather and a beautiful course in tremendous condition. Well done to our hard working course team!

They have endeavoured to have the course at its best in some of the most extreme and trying conditions!

The Club Trophy has been played in Baltinglass since 1960. Some of the great names on the prestigious Silver Tray include Cecil Jolly, Francis Glynn, Eddie Irwin, Joe McKnight, John Joe Sleator, and Anthony Graham, with John McCormack the only player having his name on it twice.

This year's competition was very kindly sponsored by Club Treasurer Tom Hannafin. The winning score of 44pts was brought in by Alan 'Harry' Worth playing off 14.

Commiserations to team captain Elaine Cunningham and her Challenge Cup team of Nora Dunne, Ann Nichols, Marie Vickers, Gillian Kilkenny and Clodagh Doyle who put up a great fight against Mullingar in the Mid-Leinster District Final in Enniscorthy on Saturday, 1st September.

The whole squad put a lot of time and effort into the team over the last five months and excitement was high as the ladies took to the first tee. The matches were close until the end but Mullingar emerged victors much to the disappointment of the team and the large crowd that travelled from Wicklow to support the ladies.
