U 16's lose out to Sligo
U-16 Football - Sligo 2-13; Wicklow 1-9
John Murphy took his U-16 football squad to Sligo for a workout at St John's GAA grounds just outside the town. This was their first outing of the year and they have not done much work to date.
They travelled without five key players and this made a big impact on a small squad. The team lost their captain Martin Shannon through injury midway through the first half. Sligo were much sharper but the lads never gave up and fought to the end.
The half time score was Sligo 1-5; Wicklow 0-6. Darragh Byrne was excellent in goal and brought off some fantastic saves. It was a worthwhile run out and the team later returned to Markievicz Park to cheer on the senior footballers.
John Murphy says that his team now go into seven weeks of strength and conditioning training prior to a break for the Junior Cert.
