Wicklow Town Council will honour St. Pat's GAA for their achievements on the pitch last year with a celebratory evening at the clubhouse on Dunbur Road.
The event follows promptings from Cllr. Pat Byrne who felt the local authority should recognise St. Patrick's GAA Club's victory in last year's Senior County Championship.
'The buzz word at the moment is 'The Gathering' but we have failed in some ways as a town council. Last year St. Pat's won the County Championships. It was a great honour for the town but the town council never hosted the club. I'm not sure why? It was a busy time and maybe things got a little lost over that period.'
Cllr. Gail Dunne, who managed the triumphant St. Pat's senior side, has suggested that the club can host the event in their clubhouse.
'It was a remarkable year for the club, and not just for the senior team. The Ladies Intermediate senior side, Under-16 Girls A, Under-14 Girls A and Under-12 A teams were all championship winners last year as well. Darragh O'Sullivan was recognised as the best club player in the county too. Maybe the best thing would be to host a celebration for everyone up in the clubhouse with Wicklow Town Council.'
