St. Kevin's emerge victorious over Scoil Chonglais in Junior A final
ST Kevin's retained the Wicklow Post Primary Schools girls Junior A football title when defeating Scoil Chonglais in an entertaining final in Baltinglass on Tuesday.
The first half was evenly contested. Scoil Chonglais made the early running but the sides were level after 20 minutes. Dunlavin had kicked a number of wides up to this point but for the remainder of the half their accuracy improved and they led by 3-7 to 3-2 at half time.
The Baltinglass school were first to score in the second half but from then on the better balanced St Kevin's team had the upper hand.
Their half back line continually drove forward, setting up chances for their forwards. Scoil Chonglais defended well and did manage some scores in breakaways but the Dunlavin school were worthy winners.
The winners had excellent defenders in Beth Doyle, Annie Maguire and Claire Grace while Amy Burke and Maedbh Ni Ghall starred in attack. Marie Kealy was outstanding for Scoil Chonglais while Chloe O'Neill, Kaitlin O Brien and Jean Kelly also had their moments.
Referee was Christy O'Rourke.
