Valleymount made all the early running in this intermediate championship game and fully deserved their three points to one lead after 15 minutes with points coming from Jack Slattery, Gary Curran and Shay Geoghegan.

Kilcoole had Daniel Kavanagh to thank for their solitary point. Valleymount should have gone further ahead but for the sterling defense of Gerry Murray and Shane Keogh.

Kilcoole started to get a foothold into the game when Matthew Gilbert cooly converted a 30 meter free following a foul on Darragh Keddy but this was quickly cancelled out with a great James Fitzpatrick point from 35 yards out.

Seconds later Kilcoole had to thank one of Murray's interventions when he intercepted a short pass and sent Kilcoole forward.

Eamonn Hughes was fouled in possession and Daniel Kavanagh sent the resultant free kick to the edge of the Valleymount square, Vinny Quigley rose highest and broke the ball to Darragh Keddy who shot the ball to the back of the net.

Valleymount came forward with purpose and were rewarded with a Slattery point to equalise the game but the respite was short lived as moments later Quigley restored the lead with a cracking point from all of 35e yards.

Two more points from Gilbert and a Darragh Keddy point sent Kilcoole into the break with a 1-06 to 0-05 half time lead.

Daniel Kavanagh opened the second half scoring when he pointed a long range free in the second minute but it was Valleymount who took the initiative with points from David Miley and two from James Fitzpatrick all within the first five minutes.

Kilcoole did have a lot of possession but some very poor shooting was letting the side down.

Valleymount came forward again with Declan Cahill scoring in the 10th and 15th minute to equalise the game.

Neither team were able to gain the upper hand until the 20th minute when Darragh Keddy managed a point to get Kilcoole ahead again.

Five minutes later It was Keddy who set Matthew Gilbert free and he lobbed the ball over the keeper into the top corner of the net. From the kick out Ronan Keddy was fouled and Kavanagh pointed a magnificent free from close to 50 yards.

Valleymount tried hard to reduce the arrears but could not make any impact on the score until the 29th minute with Declan Cahill pointing a 14yard free.

It was too little too late and Daniel Kavanagn had the last say when he pointed a 20 yard free to bring the game to an end. Kilcoole will be happiest of the two from this encounter but the reality was that this was a poor game of football and both sides will have to work much harder especially in front of goal if they are to have any impact on this years championship.
