Blessington coast to win over depleted Avondale

Blessington hit the ground running with a facile win over a very much weakened Avondale side in the opening round of the Senior Football League on Sunday morning last in Blessington.

Eddie Boylan got the Blues off the mark in the third minute with a long range point after good build up play by Brian Carroll.

Eddie Boylan doubled the lead with a pointed free.

Avondale could not compete with the strong Blessington midfield pairing of David Boothman and Kevin John Rodgers.

Brian Carroll pointed after some brilliant link up play with Mikey O'Connor.

Avondale finally got off the mark with a pointed free from the boot of Sean McGraynor.

However, Blessington hit back with two magnificent points from Eddie Boylan.

Kevin John Rodgers burst through the heart of the Avondale defence and rocked the back of the net for the opening goal of the game for the Blues.

Seamus McGraynor hit a sweet point for Avondale after good work by Dean Gahan.

Conor Ryan added a point Blessington.

Avondale then moved the evergreen pairing of Seamus McGraynor and Barry Sheehan out from the full-forward line to midfield to try and stifle the Blessington dominance.

Curtis Geraghty added another point for Blessington.

Conor Byrne pointed a free before Ian Heffernan landed a long range point for Avondale's final score of the half.

Eddie Boylan landed two more points deep into added time in the first half, with the half-time score reading 1-09 to 0-04 to Blessington.

Blessington introduced some fresh legs for the start of the second half.

Mikey O'Connor pointed the opening score of the second period in the 34th minute.

Dean Gahan and Liam Kinsella were single handedly trying to thwart the blue wave. Eddie Boylan landed an inspirational score from 55m off his left peg for the score of the match. Cian Hannigan pointed for Avondale.

Brian Carroll hit a brace of points for Blessington after great build up play by Pat O'Connor.

Conor Byrne pointed for Avondale before Darren Beever goaled for the visitors last score of the game.

Blessington tagged on two more points before the full-time whistle sounded.
