Woman's wrist broken in house break-in

Brazen thieves who ransacked an Arklow home drove at the resident's gate during their escape, and broke her wrist in a shocking incident on Sunday morning.

The crime took place in the early morning shortly after the homeowner left her property.

Less than 30 minutes after she left, she was notified that her home alarm had been activated, and returned to see a vehicle parked outside her home driven by a male.

She then noticed a second man run from the rear of the property.

The house had been ransacked.

When the shocked woman tried to close her front gate, the vehicle drove at the gate which swung back and struck her and broke her wrist.

The pair then quickly fled from the scene.

Gardaí in Arklow are appealing to anyone with information to come forward.

It is understood that a number of separate robberies were also reported on the south side of Arklow during the past week, one of which saw a homeowner return to fund an intruder in their property. The matter was mentioned at a meeting of Arklow Municipal District where it was outlined that there is concern within the community about such incidents.
