Myles Buchanan

There was a huge turnout for the funeral of Patricia Byrne on Saturday as Wicklow town and environs came out in force to bid a fond and final farewell to the much-loved 93 year old.

She passed away in St Vincent's University Hospital on Tuesday, January 31.

Born and bred in Wicklow town, Patricia was an extremely popular and always had a smile for anyone she met.

A social person by nature, she could often be witnessed chatting away to friends and associates she had bumped into as she went about her daily errands.

She was happily married to Denis 'Dunny' Byrne and the couple had ten children together. Sadly 'Dunny', who worked as a labourer for Wicklow County Council, passed away in the late 1970's, leaving Patricia with the tough task of bringing up their ten off-spring in their home on the Glenview Road, a feat she managed with great aplomb despite the obstacles facing her.

In her later years Patricia devoted much of her time to her many grandchildren and great grandchildren. A kind and warm natured woman, Patricia was an avid reader and spent plenty of time in Wicklow Library browsing through various books as she decided on her next read.

She is sadly missed by her loving children Margaret, Lynda, Mary, Anne, Michael, Denis, Rosemary, John, Patricia and Dominic, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
