Spate of thefts prompt gardaí to issue warning

Published 07/11/2012 | 09:00

CARNEW GARDAI have advised members of the public to secure their valuables and not to leave items on display in their cars, when parked in isolated locations.

The appeal came after several thefts in the locality in the past week.

A car parked at Kiltegan was broken into last Wednesday morning, and a handbag was taken.

Later in the day, a car window was smashed, while the vehicle was unattended at Crossbridge, Tinahely, and a handbag was also taken.

Then on Saturday afternoon, between 1.20 p.m. and 1.40 p.m., a Husqvarna chainsaw was stolen from an open garage in Tinahely.

Gardaí believe that this was an opportunistic crime, and have appealed to anyone who might have seen any suspicious activity in any of the aforementioned areas, to contact them at Carnew Garda Station on 053 9426102, with any information they may have.
