Former rugby star Shane Byrne has added another string to his bow last week with his foray into the movies.

Shane will be hitting the big screen next June with his role in Mrs. Brown's Boys D'Movie playing the part of Russian baddie Vladimir.

Shane said the whole experience so far is surreal but incredible. 'I got involved when Brendan O'Carroll whom I know through charity work rang me saying he was after writing a part in the film which he thought would be perfect for me.

'First I had to check he wasn't taking the mickey, Brendan being Brendan, but once he convinced me he was telling the truth I said I might as well. Life is for living.'

Shane said working on the film has been a real eye-opener. 'I've seen behind the scenes of a film now which is something I never thought I'd do. It was incredible. Last week when we were filming on Moore Street it was amazing. One problem we had was people laughing at the dialogue so the scene would have to be reshot.

'It's amazing the amount of detail that goes into each scene. Basically they are aiming to have four minutes of the film each day so each scene could be shot up to 12 times from different angles.

'It definitely isn't as fast moving as rugby! But it's great craic', said Shane.

The camaraderie among the cast and crew is also fantastic. 'You can see the cast are such a happy bunch. Many of them are Brendan's family and friends and you can see the fun they have as a team.'

Shane said his character Vladimir is in the majority of the film so he should be lighting up our screens for most of the film. 'Mostly I just have to look moody', he jokes.

'The scripts are sent to us a few days ahead of filming and are constantly changing.'

He said he is not sure how his acting skills are but 'they tell me they are happy anyway. It's definitely a great chance and we'll see where it goes', said Shane.
