Four men wearing balaclavas descended on the Value Centre Wholesalers on Thursday evening just before 6 p.m.. One of the men was also armed with an axe.

In the process of breaking into the premises, the raiders falsely imprisoned a security guard and tied him up.

It is understood that the men escaped with a small amount of cash. The suspects made their getaway in a silver coloured saloon car.

Wicklow Gardai immediately sealed off the cash and carry at Glebe Business Park, Port Access Road, for a technical examination of the crime scene. CCTV footage has also been viewed and a number of check-points were put in place to try and apprehend the culprits.

A garda spokesperson confirmed that one of the men was carrying a 'weapon' in the form of an axe.

'It appears the security guard wasn't injured or hurt during the raid but he was obviously quite shaken up by events,' stated the spokesperson.
