AN update on the development of Wicklow Skate Park was delivered to Wicklow Town Council at last week's meeting.
Wicklow Area Engineer Kevin Scanlon confirmed that the much-anticipated development is progressing well. The concrete foundations had already been put in place, while the remaining works would be concluded over the coming weeks. Construction of the cycle path along the Murrough has also commenced,
A number of councillors present praised the works conducted so far, belieivng the skate park - when finished - would represent an excellent new amenity for the town.
Cllr Pat Kavanagh - a long-time advocate of the skate park - was pleased with the progress to date, while Cllr Mervyn Morrison also claimed he was 'delighted' to see that construction of the skate park (which could open as early as next month) was progressing rapidly. However, he expressed reservations about the dangerous machines and equipment left on site, believing that this could constitute a health hazard to anyone venturing close to the site.
Wicklow Skate Park Committee had on their official Facebook page warned locals eager to use the facility to avoid the site until construction was complete and the park was open to the public, as there had been reports in recent weeks of young people venturing onto the site.
The Town Engineer confirmed that over the last week or so there had been no more confirmed reports of people illegally venturing onto the construction site.
