WICKLOW Municipal District meetings will continue to be held in the Town Hall until a permanent use for the building is decided.
Former Town Manager and new District Manager, Michael Nicholson, said discussions at Wicklow County Council level were ongoing as to the best use for the premises now that Town Council staff no longer occupy it.
'A number of suggestions have been made but we haven't finalised anything yet. It will not be left sitting here with weeds growing out of it. It will be used for something.'
Mr. Nicholson added, 'there are some functions that don't have to be located in the County Council buildings.
'These units could be moved to the town hall or a whole section could be relocated. That's one option we are examining.'
Cathaoirleach, Pat Casey, felt it was important that the Municipal District meetings continue in the Town Hall until a function for the building has been agreed.
Cllr. Irene Winters was in agreement. Cllr. John Snell said it was 'historically important' to retain the Town Hall for the people of Wicklow.
He also felt the councillors and public should have some input into the future use of the building.
