A BRAY man was fined ?600 when he was convicted at a special sitting of the District Court on Monday of being threatening and abusive in a public place.

Brendan Kinlan, 1 Pollards Terrace, Bray was convicted of committing the offence at Duncairn Terrace, Bray on May 4 last.

Sergeant Eamon O'Neill told the court that he had searched the defendant on the date in question under the misuse of drugs act.

'He became very aggressive towards me and through clenched teeth said 'get your hands out of my pocket you f***ing prick',' Sgt O'Neill stated.

In cross-examination, Kinlan's solicitor, Brendan Moloney, said the incident before the court was not the first time that his client had been stopped by the garda’.

'My client believes that the garda’ have a vendetta against him and they seem to make life very difficult for him and try to embarrass him wherever possible,' he stated

However, Sgt O'Neill rejected Moloney's claim and said there was no agenda.

In mitigation, Mr Moloney said the insults which his client uttered, however distasteful were spoken 'face to face and not to the general public'.

Noting the defendant's failure to attend court, Judge Murrough Connellan fined him ?600.
