Fears for future of Rathdrum parade
This year's St Patrick's Day Parade in Rathdrum is under threat unless more people volunteer their time to help out with proceedings on March 17.
Only half a dozen people turned up for a meeting arranged last Monday so as to put in place preparations for the parade.
The St Patrick's Day Committee Chairman, Jimmy O'Shaughnessy, says there is a real danger the parade won't take place unless local volunteers step forward.
He says, 'People just don't seem that interested. It was a very disappointing turnout for the meeting and each year we are generally reliant on the same faces all the time. We need people to make themselves available, otherwise we won't be able to run the parade, which would be a huge disappointment. It has been going on for 26 years now and has been a huge success. We want the parade to take place but we need help.'
Another public meeting takes place on Monday at 7.15 p.m. in the Rathdrum Tourist Office.
