Wicklow Fire Service attend the fire in the derelict house on Kilcoole Main Street, opposite Byrne's Pub.

A DERELICT house in Kilcoole went up in flames for the fifth time last Friday evening.

The house is located on the Main Street of the village and has attracted antisocial behaviour.

Firemen at the scene said that it is likely that such activity is at the root of the spate of fires.

Two units from Greystones and two units from Wicklow fire brigade attended the fire which broke out at around 6 p.m.

A large number of onlookers stopped in Kilcoole and watched the fire service fight the blaze.

They tackled the flames, which were coming through the roof, within one hour before staying on-site to ensure that the fire would not be in danger of re-igniting.

The building was already in a bad way, according to a source, due to the previous fires there.
