A CAR BURST into flames on the south bound lane of the N11 last Sunday evening causing delays.

The car which was travelling in the direction of Wexford caught fire just south of the Newtownmountkennedy exit of the N11 at approximately 8 pm.

Motorist Pawel Zygmunt who was travelling from Arklow to Oldtown in Co. Dublin stopped on the northbound lane of the N11 and captured these dramatic pictures.

'We stopped because we thought someone might need help.

'When we got out we saw the owner standing beside the car making some telephone calls.

' The fire service arrived shortly afterwards and quickly set to work putting out the fire.

' A number of cars also stopped on that side of the road to help and the traffic was blocked for some time.'

Traffic on the night was heavy on the southbound lane and delays were experienced by motorists as members of the fire service took less than an hour to quench the flames.
