A NUMBER of protests took place across Wicklow recently. The clinics of four of the five Wicklow TD's had a protest picket placed on them by members of the Campaign Against Household & Water Taxes (Wicklow).
Michael O'Brien of the groups said ' last Saturday week saw successful protest pickets on all four government TDs clinics across County Wicklow. Well over 100 activists turned out in Bray, Wicklow Town and Arklow to show their opposition to the first botched round of threatening letters to single home owners demanding payment of the unjust household tax.
'A fresh round of public meetings will take place in November across the county beginning with Newtownmountkennedy next Thursday night November 1 at 8pm in the Community Hall. A key focus of the campaign will be building a big Wicklow contingent on the national pre budget protest co-organised by the CAHWT and the Dublin Council of Trade Unions alongside other organisations and campaigns fighting the austerity agenda of the government.
'With the first District Court Summonses being issued by Mayo County Council to a handful of non payers the campaign in Wicklow is readying itself for an intense period of struggle which we hope and expect will see ordinary householders up and down the county get active.'
