FIFTY ANGLERS from 17 different sea angling clubs from across the country competed in the Wicklow Bay Sea Angling Club's Open Beach Fishing Competition.

Over 240 fish were landed including a 22cm Whiting, and a 29cm Flounder, despite the appalling weather conditions.

Organised by Peter Flavhive of the Wicklow Bay Club, the beach was divided into three zones to accommodate all the anglers, which this year included three lady anglers and one junior in Daryl Birmingham of the Southshore Angling Club.

The zone winners were Jimmy Farrell of Blackrock Beach Angling Club, and Eamon Birmingham of Southshore Angling Club.

The overall winner of the €200 first prize was Paul Tyndall of the Bray Sea Angling Club. The prize presentation ceremony was hosted in Whisler's Bar, Wicklow town where Paul collected his prize from Jack Byrne, President of the Wicklow Bay Sea Angling Club.
