Steady trade at Carnew

THERE was a steady trade at the Carnew Sheep Sale on Thursday last with a total of 2,800 animals on offer.
There was a steady trade for butcher and factory lots as well as store lambs. There was an increase in price for ewe lambs.
Butcher and factory lambs made between €85 and €102 per head while store lambs went for between €65 and €82. Ewe lambs sold for between €75 and €105 while cast ewes fetched between €47 and €122. Breeding ewes sold for between €125 and €166.
On Saturday, the cattle sale had 620 lambs on offer with very strong trade prices similar to last week's sale.
Beef and forward bullocks sold for between €620 and €950 over the kilo while store bullocks went for between €340 and €810 over the kilo. Beef heifers sold for between €520 and €920 over the kilo and store heifers sold for between €310 and €720 over the kilo. Dry cows fetched between €150 and €800 over the kilo.
