CONTRACTS for the long awaited Dunlavin Sewerage Scheme were finally signed on Thursday, paving the way for the future development of the town.

The €5,519,000 scheme will be split into two contracts. Contract 1 is for the construction of a new Wastewater Treatment Plant for Dunlavin and a new pumping station on Logatryna Road. The two existing wastewater treatment plants will be decommissioned.

Contract 2 involves the construction of new surface water sewers on Stephen Street, Dunlavin, as well as repairs and rehabilitation works to the existing foul sewer network.

Deputy Billy Timmins has welcomed the fact both contracts have been signed.

'After over 15 years of campaigning for a new sewerage scheme and I am delighted to see things finally come to fruition with an investment of over €5 million. Work is due to start immediately so hopefully Dunlavin will be able to develop economically once the works are complete.'
