Parents learn a lot from CCM programme

OVER THE past few months a group of parents have been attending a parenting programme in Coláiste Chill Mhantáin.
The programme was facilitated by Dr Patrick Loughrane Senior Clinical Psychologist with the HSE and Tara Noone Childcare Work Manager.
The Incredible Years programme is designed for parents of children who are challenging boundaries and limits, and are not responding to regular parenting ideas.
The programme is a step-by-step approach over fourteen sessions where a different topic and area of parenting is explored each week.
The parent's knowledge accumulates from week to week, and each parenting idea lends itself to the one that follows it.
The sessions are packed with group discussion, follow up from parents preceding week, role play, and discussion around the content of video scenarios designed to stimulate new ideas and reinforce the techniques being presented.
Feed back from those who have completed the course is consistently positive, and the research basis for the programme is well documented showing consistent positive outcomes. It is hoped to run the course again in the New Year.
On Wednesday last parents who completed the Incredible Years Parenting Programme received their certificates.
