Oaklands has come out on top in this year's Arklow's tidy estates competition.

To win, they beat Knockenrahan, many times winners, into second place.

In the Old Arklow Estates section, the winners were St. Patrick's Terrace, with the Brook Gardens second.

The competition was judged by Frank O'Toole, Environmental Officer with Wicklow County Council, who was impressed with the general overall appearance of the housing areas but litter was still a problem.

Arklow Tidy Towns Committee, which organises these competitions, feels confident that the town could do well in the major national competitions if everyone got out and swept their own areas.

Gleeson's Pork Shop at Lower Main Street were the winners of the Shop Front of the year contest.
