Jennifer Bollard from Stratford on Slaney celebrated her retirement from her post as director of public health nursing in HSE Dun Laoghaire at a farewell function hosted by HSE colleagues in Dalkey last week.

Jennifer is the daughter of Susan and the late Jack Byrne from Randalstown and is married to Pat Bollard. Following her education in Stratford and Baltinglass, Jennifer moved to Dublin to start nursing in 1972 and completed her general nurse training in Mercer's Hospital.

After qualifying, she worked as a staff nurse in Mercer's before moving to the Coombe Hospital to complete her midwifery training and remained there as a staff midwife for more than three years. Jennifer then completed a training course in public health nursing and worked in Crumlin and Tallaght as a public health nurse before moving to west Wicklow.

Jennifer will be remembered as the public health nurse in Dunlavin, Donard and Hollywood district where she worked for more than 14 years.

She then moved into nurse management as an assistant director of public health nursing in Kildare and west Wicklow, and after many years moved on as director of public health nursing to Dun Loaghaire in 2006.

She retired in May after a long, successful nursing career and was last week honoured at a function attended by her husband Pat, sons Niall, Eoin and Cian and a large number of family, friends and work colleagues.
