NEWTOWN JUNIORS F.C.

Six games played last weekend and it was 3 victories, 1 draw and 2 defeats. The Under 8's suffered their first defeat of the season in a 4-1 reverse away to Arklow United. Ryan Clarke scored the Newtown goal and Ryan McMahon and Marcel Kocajda were the star players on the day.

The Under 9's had to settle for a 2-2 draw at home to Greystones. Fionn O'Reilly on his debut and Bobby Dowling scored the Newtown goals while Aidan Keogh was excellent in the Newtown goal.

Good win at home for the Under 11's winning 7-2 against Wolfe Tone. Jack Elliott scored a hat trick, Josh Odlum notched a brace while Dylan Fitzsimons and Andrew McMahon also found the net. They could even afford the luxury of a missed penalty kick.

The Under 12's unfortunately crashed out of the 12's cup with a 2-1 home loss to Avonmore. A late goal from Ciaran Keogh did give Newtown hope but try as they might they just couldn't bring the game to extra time.

The Under 14's won 6-0 away to Greystones 'B' where the game had six different goalscorers for Newtown. The scorers were Michael Coghlan, Conor Odlum, Adam Heffernan, Aaron Toner, Keegan Heffernan and Ryan Waters. The Girl's Under 18's got back to winning ways with a 3-1 home win over WFTA from Finglas. Orlaith Whelan gave us the lead in time added on at the end of the first half with an excellent solo effort and then Lauren Nolan made it two on the hour mark with a volleyed finish after a move involving Chelsee Snell & Sinead Horgan. WFTA pulled a goal back with 10 minutes remaining but Una Grogan restored our 2 goal advantage in the 85th minute following in to score from close range after a shot from Whelan. Best for Newtown on the day were Jane Fagan, Megan Davis and Erin Horan.

Our girl's 16's had no game but two of the team's players were in action for the Leinster schools team as they won the Inter-Provincial series in Athlone. Both Amy Guilfoyle and Katie Miley played prominent roles in Leinster's success and their results were as follows: Leinster 2 Ulster 0, Leinster 2 Munster 1 and Leinster 1 Connacht 0. It was a penalty three minutes from time that secured the win and the trophy as the girls from the West only needed a draw to win the tournament. Well done girls from everyone in the club and the county.
