Learn more about our woodlands at Barnaslingan

Published 28/08/2013 | 05:44

A guided tree walk will take place at Barnaslingan Wood on September 14 at 12 midday.

The group will walk The Scalp Lootout Trail and learn about the different native trees present. The Native Woodland Trust will lead the walk.

South of Kilternan, there is a narrow, rocky valley known as The Scalp which sits on the Dublin-Wicklow border. The Scalp Lookout Trail in Barnaslingan Wood leads to beautiful views over The Scalp and beyond to the Wicklow mountains.

The Coillte owned Barnaslingan Wood is made up mostly of non-native pines however it is also home to our native pine tree; the Scots Pine as well as many other native broadleaf species dotted throughout the wood. This is the perfect opportunity to learn about our native trees while getting a breath of fresh air and some light exercise.

For a map and further details go to www.nativewoodlandtrust.ie. The walk will run from 12 midday to 2 p.m. and all are welcome. The event is free for NWT members with a suggested donation of €4 for non-members. For more details please contact Kirsty at kirsty.daly@nativewoodlandtrust.ie or on (087) 9619083.
