THE screams of well known local butcher Derek Dunne rang out along Wicklow's streets on Thursday as he underwent one of the most painful experiences of his life.

A brave and fool hardy Derek agreed to undergo a full leg wax at Lloyd's Pharmacy to help raise funds for Wicklow Cancer Support.

The painful hair removal exercise took place just days before Derek was due to fly off on his holidays.

Initially he only planned to have one leg waxed but at the last minute decided parading around the beach overseas with one baby smooth leg and the other covered in hair may look rather strange to other holiday-makers.

He was clearly in holiday mood as he arrived in Lloyd's decked out in beach shorts, sunglasses, a baseball cap and a shirt so loud it could make your eyes bleed.

Once Sarah Fox from the Eden Beauty Group had applied the wax there was no turning back for Derek. Soon he was building up quite the sweat as strip after strip of waxing paper was ripped from his flesh, each removing large swathes of hair from his stinging legs. It soon became clear why Derek was wearing a baseball cap - to help hide the tears of pain streaming down his cheeks.
