Grand Slam Bridge
THE AUSPICIOUS date of 12./12/12 found the members in the Dominican Ecology Centre complex last Wednesday casting aspersions that the Tournament tirector had in some way cast a spell on the 18 hands dealt that were tortuous and downright devious in the distribution of the cards. The alleged supernatural interference is strongly denied. The director was not playing so was able to oversee many interesting tables where players had some problems knowing what they ought to bid.
First place in the winners enclosure were Caroline Brown and Tom O'Mahony. This was the first time these two had played together and they showed the rest of the club how it should be done. Mona Doyle and Larry Ryan came in second followed closely by Carmel Moore and Billy Dunne. There were a number of pairs with equal scores in the rest and no grand slam was bid and made, although many players did take all 13 tricks.
Today, December 19, is the ' White Elephant' party night to finish the 2012 schedule on a celebratory note as the season lends itself to another year marking the Word becoming flesh among us. As usual there will be something for everybody in the audience to take away with them on the night. Happy Christmas to all our members and many friends. The club will be back again after Christmas on Wednesday, January 2, at 8pm in the Dominican Ecology Centre.
