Blessington's five-year plan for improving the appearance of the town and the surrounding area got an enthusiastic reception when it was presented to locals by the Blessington Tidy Towns Group (BTTG) at an information meeting held in the Avon Ri last Thursday.

The evening was extremely well attended with local people eager to find out how the village and surrounding area can progress in terms of keeping their environs in top condition.

Chairman Jason Mulhall explained that the BTTG had commissioned a five-year Tidy Towns Development Plan which was prepared by Flynn Furney Environment Consultancy. The plan has been developed to provide specific insight and clear direction in identifying and prioritising activities to pursue over the next five years.

At Thursday's presentation people heard a summary of the recommendations in the report, in which consultant Billy Flynn described Blessington as a 'town with a most interesting history, situated in an extremely scenic part of Ireland, and commonly referred to as the Gateway to the Garden of Ireland, with huge potential for improvements in the National Tidy Towns ranking'.
