Duff among star studded line-up
THE sun shone on Merryn Lacy last Sunday afternoon as she watched Damien Duff, among others, play football for her.
It was ex-Ardmore vs ex-Wolfe Tone at Bray Wanderers' Carlisle Grounds. As well as the two arch enemies taking to the field to settle old scores, there was plenty of entertainment for the children.
There were bouncy castles, face painting and a raffle with prizes including a pair of boots signed by Damien Duff, a signed Darron Gibson Everton jersey, a signed West Bromwich Albion jersey, vouchers and bottles of wine.
Merryn's dad Mick said that the day was amazing. 'People are just so good. We have some tough days, but we also have days where we experience levels of kindness that we never knew existed,' he said.
The five-year-old had her kidney removed last month and has undergone 12 rounds of chemotherapy. She will receive further treatment to remove the cancer from her bones and bone marrow.
If she is in remission in the next year she will be sent to the USA for blocker treatment at a cost of €150,000 to €200,000 to hopefully stop the cancer reappearing.
In the event of a relapse the cost of treatment in the USA could reach €500,000.
