Leslie and Lynda Martin are very close to their target of €250,000 after 'Get Moving for the Martins', a 5k run/walk in Avondale House and Forest Park which got a huge community response to help the family fund their six-month stay in Italy.

Over 120 people turned up for the Martin Family Trust event and raised an astonishing €4,961 with more money still to come in from people who could not make it on the day but still raised money through their sponsorship cards.

Organiser Gillian Murphy donated most of the refreshments for after the race while other attendees brought a lot of baked goods on the day.

'I would like to thank everyone for the donations. Also Pop-Up Races for providing us with chips for times and online registration; Billy Porter who planned the route for us; the local businesses who gave us prizes for our raffle; and Coillte for letting us hold the event at Avondale House.'

The funds raised were presented to Sinead Martin, an aunty of Ciaran and Cathal Martin from Rathnew, who are both in Italy, where Ciaran is receiving treatment at the moment, with their parents Leslie and Lynda.
