Tougher to find new homes for abandoned dogs

Ash Animal Sanctuary managed to rehome a staggering 308 dogs in 2013 despite the fact that the amount of people adopting pets has fallen dramatically over the past number of years.

Ash Animal Sanctuary managed to rehome a staggering 308 dogs in 2013 despite the fact that the amount of people adopting pets has fallen dramatically over the past number of years.

Remi and Helena Le Mahieu run the Kiltegan sanctuary but find themselves under increasing pressure despite managing to find homes for over 300 dogs in the past 12 months.

Ash is run on a voluntary basis and is reliant on donations from members of the public in order to continue functioning. Just prior to Christmas the sanctuary received news that it would be allocated a Government grant of €1,800 for next year. However, €1,400 of that figure will have to go toward outstanding vet bills built up over 2013.
