Navy ship in harbour

THE NAVAL vessel LÉ CIARA paid an unexpected visit to Wicklow harbour over the weekend.

The coastal patrol vessel with thirty-nine crew arrived on Saturday afternoon and tied up overnight at the Packet pier, some eight years after her last Wicklow visit.

LÉ CIARA was formally the HMS SWALLOW a British Royal Navy 'Peacock' class patrol vessel stationed in the waters of Hong Kong. In 1989, she was commissioned into the Irish Navel Service along with LÉ ORLA.
