The Clasach Theatre in Fairview was a riot of colourful costumes on Thursday for the annual Coirm Gael Linn festival.
The pupils of Gaelscoil na Lochanna, Blessington, flew the flag for County Wicklow among almost 500 exuberant young actors, musicians, singers and dancers from primary schools and Gaelscoileanna taking to the stage in this one day feast of music, singing, dancing and drama.
Each school presented a twenty minute variety show 'as Gaeilge' with a theme of their own choice, using the musical and dramatic talents of pupils from the same class or from different classes in the school. The standard was very high again this year, thanks to the enthusiastic and hard-working teachers who produced the shows.
While Coirm Gael Linn is not a competition as such, there's always a drive among the participating schools to perform to their best.
Each show was reviewed by guest adjudicator Síle Ní Dhuibhne, and a written critique was given to the schools. She also rewarded outstanding performances by individuals or ensembles with special merit prizes or 'gradaim'.
Gaelscoil na Lochanna received two such awards, one for the for the excellent acting skills displayed by the young cast during their show, 'Tóraíocht Dhora agus Dhiego, Searching for Dora and Diego, directed by teacher Seán Ó Cearnaigh, and the second for the clever, funny, and different script.
Each child who participated in Coirm Gael Linn was also given a little memento of the occasion to take home.
