Irish cycling legend Sean Kelly is bank in the saddle again with a little help from Wicklow's Edel Byrne.

The former professional road racer will be joined by up to 60 other cycling enthusiasts as he takes part in an 80km and 120km charity bike ride in the Slieve Bloom Mountains in aid of the Irish Heart Foundation. The Tour of the Midlands will be marshalled by the Tullamore Harriers with support from the ISS Facility Services.

Assisting him will be Wicklow native Edel, part of the Irish Heart Foundations health promotion team. Edel is also Slí na Sláinte co-ordinator with the Irish Heart Foundation which includes initiatives in Arklow, Avondale, Bray, Carnew, Roundwood and Wicklow town.

Sean is hoping that other Wicklow residents will also join him in the midlands on October 12.

'Biking is a very good source of exercise and can be done from very young to very old. From a fitness point of view and particularly in light of our country's obesity crisis, cycling is an ideal activity to manage weight gain and boost overall health.'

Registration is open now for the Tour of the Midlands with Sean Kelly. Find out more on www.irishheart.ie
