CO Wicklow has been allocated a further €219,474 under the LEADER elements of the Rural Development Programme, according to Deputy Andrew Doyle.
This funding will subsequently be distributed to assist starting businesses and services in rural areas across the county, and comes as the Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government Phil Hogan announced on Friday, January 3 that a further €4 million is to be allocated nationally under the Rural Development Programme.
'I've very pleased to see that additional funding has been allocated for the county,' said Deputy Doyle. 'It will go a long way in supporting rural communities in County Wicklow.
'This has the capacity, not only to facilitate access to sustainable employment opportunities in rural area, but also to help support sustainable communities and enhance rural economies for further job creation.
'It is focused on the development of micro-enterprises, rural services, rural recreation and rural tourism.
'It is hoped that, by focusing on these services in our county, the Programme will lead to sustainable development, which in turn will ensure prosperity for County Wicklow.'
