RTE'S Myles Dungan launched 'Parnell A Novel' at a glittering event in the Shelbourne Hotel attended by Alan Shatter TD Minister for Justice, Equality and Defence, and his wife Carol

The book took 10 years to research and was written by Brian Cregan SC and published by The History Press.

Raised at Avondale House in Rathdrum, Charles Stewart Parnell was at the forefront of the Home Rule campaign in Ireland.

This novel is a fictionalised version of Parnell's life but entirely historically accurate, and the only fictional character is the narrator James Harrison who begins the novel as Parnell's secretary and later becomes an MP and a barrister, defending Parnell in court. Through Harrison's eyes we are able to follow Parnell's incredible career. Written as a novel, and a great read, this book brings history to life and will open the eyes of anyone who struggled with history at school!
