Festival filled with talent
The 48th annual Arklow Musical Festival drew to a close in wonderful style last Sunday evening with the prizewinners' concert at St Mary's College Hall.
The venue was packed to capacity as a selection of the festival winners took to the stage for the final time this year. Prizes were also presented by Festival Director John Bonner.
This year saw a tremendous standard of talent perform in a vast number of competition categories across four venues. Competitions took place at St Mary's College, Marlborough Hall, Arklow CBS and the Arklow Bay Hotel.
From action song to choral groups and everything in between, there was something for everyone and the adjudicators had a difficult task in selecting the winners.
The festival was officially opened last week by Minister Simon Harris who congratulated the organising committee and said that the festival has gone from strength to strength from humble beginnings. He praised the many volunteers working in the background for all the work they do in bringing such a large scale event to fruition every year.
Minister Harris also sent good wishes to Festival Secretary Eileen Clandillon who had to bow out action due to illhealth during the festival.
John Bonner presented a plaque of the Arklow crest to Minister Harris to mark the occasion.
