Up to 40 retired Wexford seafarers could be in for a financial windfall under their pension scheme.
Anyone who joined the Merchant Navy Rating Pension Fund before 1978 is due financial credits for extra years of service, according to Eire Shipping branch secretary Declan Roche of Wexford.
'There could be a potential windfall of between €3,000 and €30,000 for some people depending on how many years they had at sea,' he said. The money is due under a review of the terms of the pension which is administered by Ensign Ltd. Retired seafarers are invited to an information meeting in Browne's of Bishopswater on Thursday, May 22 at 8 p.m.
