Teachers beat RNLI crew in novelty tug of war contest

The strain shows on the faces of the Bridgetown VEC staff team, but it was worth it in the end as they overcame the challenge of the RNLI.

TEACHERS at Bridgetown Vocational College were the unlikely winners against a team of burly lifeboatmen in a tug-of-war.

However, all was not as it seemed as the numbers were anything but finely balanced with more teachers taking the strain than members of the lifeboat crew.

The lifeboat crew was captained by Declan Roche, while the victorious teachers were led to victory by Ray Kent.

Earlier, teams of students at the college competed, with the third years, captained by Declan's son Michael declared the outright winners.

Despite losing to the teachers, the RNLI crew still ended up the winners with all money raised by the tug-of-war going to the Institution.
