Top honour for lady in black
WEXFORD LADIES' soccer referee Michelle O'Neill has been honoured by UEFA in being selected to take charge of one of their major semi-finals.
Michelle, who is currently officiating as FIFA assistant referee during the UEFA Women's Under-19 championship finals tournament in Antalya, Turkey, has just been appointed to the high-profile semifinal involving Spain and Portugal.
Wexford soccer followers can follow Michelle live on television as the game this evening (Wednesday) is going out live on Eurosport with a 7 p.m. kick-off.
This is a huge achievement in the refereeing world for Michelle to be appointed to the tournament in Turkey at group stage level, but an even bigger achievement to be one of the few chosen to officiate on the semi-final stage. A good performance would leave her very much in the running for Saturday's final.
Michelle is well-known in Wexford soccer circles and throughout the country for her efficient officiating at games. She has taken charge of Wexford Football League games, while she has also been seen doing the line during Airtricity Division 1 games played at Ferrycarrig Park.
Rated as one of the most qualified referees on the circuit in the country, Michelle has all her badges that qualify her to officiate at the top levels of football.
Her latest achievement is a wonderful recognition for the Wexford Referees' Society, who are producing a constant stream of referees to take charge of top cup games throughout the country.
