Adamstown best in end-to-end tie
A PERFECT sunny day for football in Adamstown Community Centre saw Adamstown host Gorey Celtic in Under-12 Division 2.
It was a great game of end to end football with some fantastic passages of play on display for both sets of supporters. Adamstown went ahead early in the first-half with some great attacking play.
Their passing forced mistakes in the visitors' defence and Chris Mahon slotted home. Adamstown had most of the attacking play in the first 20 minutes and were rewarded with ten minutes left in the opening period when Mahon popped up to score again.
Celtic made some positional changes and it seemed to have the desired effect. They came on strong in the last ten minutes of the first-half and through a fine team effort they pulled one back via Ross Proudfoot.
This game had both sets of children playing entertaining passing football with the ball being moved with great skill. The second-half saw Gorey come out with all guns blazing and they had the Adamstown defenders working really hard under immense pressure.
The Adamstown 'keeper was in great form and made some fine saves to keep his team in front. Gorey hit the crossbar and you could sense that it was not going to be their day.
Gorey gave one last push in the dying minutes and when Adamstown counter-attacked they got the third goal that secured the points to move them two ahead of Celtic in the league.
