A WEXFORD County G.A.A. Board-commissioned review undertaken by the provincial council has suggested a major overhaul of the structures and coaching system in the county is needed.
The Leinster Games Development Review Group has presented the findings of their in-depth review of the coaching structures, and we can exclusively reveal the contents today which show an alarming lack of communication and understanding of what is needed to achieve what is best for the county.
Wexford G.A.A. will be hoping that once all aspects of the review are implemented that the change will be for the best in the Association. Already the County Management committee has set aside a special committee to digest what is a comprehensive review of coaching, organisation, games development from schools to adult, involving the widest possible range of interests.
It is ground-breaking stuff but unlike other reviews it also puts forward recommendations that will bring about an overall improvement should they be implemented over a period of time. And the Leinster Council will maintain a real interest in how the review is adopted in Wexford as their two representatives, Kildare's Pat Dunny and Kilkenny's Lester Ryan, will sit in on early meetings when the review is not just up for consideration but also implementation.
Wexford's new officer board may still be somewhat cash strapped having taken over the Board's financial fiasco of previous years when they assumed office last December. They have ploughed on and brought immense improvement, but the worst of it is that finances are still scarce for the implementation of what is the most important document to arrive on the Wexford G.A.A. table in its history.
With details of the review still to be presented to County Board and the clubs, they will be shocked at its findings which is damning in many aspects of the Association's affairs in the county. But now they must be prepared to grasp the detail and implement it in its entirety to bring about the required improvement at under-age level in particular.
