FORMER Wexford hurling star George O'Connor escaped unhurt when his car struck a pillar outside Piercestown National School.
The accident took place last Monday shortly after children left the playground and went into the school.
While he wasn't hurt in the crash, he was subsequently admitted to hospital for tests.
Mr. O'Connor, who is in his 50s, played hurling with his local club St. Martin's and with the Wexford senior inter-county team from 1979 until 1996, when he was part of the team that won the All-Ireland senior hurling title.
He is currently working as a GAA coach.
