THREE top-of-the-range bicycles worth more than €5,000 were stolen in a smash-and-grab at the Bike Shop in Wexford town early.
However, the prompt action of a local resident who heard the shop's window being smashed and those of gardai who responded swiftly to the call, led to all three bikes being recovered.
A man was arrested and has been released on garda bail.
Silvia Duggan, who is a partner in the business with her brother John, said she was called to the Selskar premises shortly after 6 a.m. after a neighbour alerted gardai to the incident.
She said that the three bikes, a Ridley Orion full carbon racer and two Defy racers had all been recovered, but the cabon fibre bike had been scratched and damaged during the break in and was a 'write off'.
Cycling helmets and other equipment had also been damaged after being dragged from the shop window, which has since been repaired.
