Reduced services available at Women's Refuge outlined
THE board of management of Wexford Women's Refuge has issued a statement outlining the services that will be offered during a temporary accommodation closure that began last week.
Chairperson Molly Kirwan said the refuge is currently open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday to Friday for the following services: access to information, court accompaniment, support in accessing emergency accommodation, access to counselling and dealing with referrrals.
Overnight from 9 p.m. to 9 a.m. during the week and also at weekends, the refuge helpline will be diverted to the staff and women will be helped to find emergency accommodation and provided with one-to-one support where appropriate, she said.
All services will be provided in a professional and confidential environment.
Ms. Kirwan said that although the services of the refuge are being reduced for a 13-week period, every effort has been made to address the concerns of the public and especially women and children experiencing domestic violence.
She said the organisation is confident of the long term sustainability of the service and expects that the current dificulties will be overcome.
'Wexford Women's Refuge would once again like to thank the public and community for their ongoing support particularly during this difficulty time,' she said.
The controversial accommodation closure has been implemented by the voluntary board in consultation with the HSE to address an overspend of €67,000 so far this year.
