A group consisting of about 19 proud mammies descended on The Riverbank House Hotel recently in order to take part in the Quintessence Breastfeeding Challenge 2013.
The challenge is one that takes place each year all over the country with the goal of promoting and encouraging breastfeeding among new mothers. This is the first year that the event has taken place in Wexford and it was the local women Debbie Quinn and Linda Phillips who decided to give it a go.
'Basically this type of event happens all over the world,' said Linda. 'I suppose the goal is to bring mothers together and to normalise breastfeeding in public. Our decision to do it was kind of last minute, but we were delighted with the attendance on the day.
'The group was made up of friends, friends of friends and members of the breastfeeding group that meets every two weeks out in Ely House.
'The group also meets fairly regularly in The Riverbank and they are very accommodating to us.'
Each of the doting mothers was proud to do their bit to encourage breastfeeding and to remove some of the stigma associated with breastfeeding in public.
