The Gusserane National School pupil won the county final of the Eason Spelling Bee 2013 and was just pipped at the post in the Leinster finals at Maynooth, where he finished runner-up in a field of 11 master spellers.

Entries are now being taken for the Eason Spelling Bee 2014, run in association with RTE 2fm's Tubridy Show. The competition is open to all 5th and 6th class students across the Republic, and Primary 7 students in the North, and the prize fund runs to more than €20,000.

The final takes place at RTE HQ in June but before that there will be some stiff competition at school, county and regional level.

Entries for the 2014 event must be in by Friday, January 10.
